JUST EGG – The Vegan Egg JUST Scramble

The texture of Just hasn’t completely won me over yet, but I think this is a good start for plant-based eggs. The flavor is passable, and the texture is tolerable when combined with other ingredients.

Just Egg isn’t recommended for baking quite yet, but when reached for comment, the company said it’s “working on it!” It’d be interesting to see if Just releases any other “egg” products for people who aren’t as into scrambled .

As with Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, if we can reduce our dependence on animals — even by eating an Impossible burger, Beyond taco, or Just Egg sandwich every once in a while — strides can be made to better our food systems and create more sustainable options.

“The food system needs new tools to improve the way people eat,” the Just culinary team said. “We realized that those tools can be found in the vast world of plants.”

What Does Just Egg Taste Like

Since I paid $ 4.99 for my JUST egg bottle and decided to be the guinea pig, let me show you what I made and tell you what I think.

First, JUST Egg looks like a scrambled egg, its texture and consistency, and it even looks like a scrambled egg. What does it smell like? Nothing much! It smells like nothing, but when it cooks, it smells like an egg, no pun intended. Even though JUST Egg contains oil, I used my nonstick pan, so I don’t know if it needs any additional oil if cooking in a regular skillet.

Of course, the most crucial part is the taste. Before going plant-based, l didn’t like eggs, but I know what they taste. So, my husband became my test kitchen guinea pig. According to my husband, it tastes just like an egg. So, even though I am not an egg fan, I took a bite, and he was right the taste, smell, and texture are very similar to an egg. I’m not too fond of it, but he LOVED it.

Potential Benefits Of Just Egg

Just Egg exists as more than simply a zero-cholesterol egg option. “It’s great that plant-based eggs are available to those who are vegan or for those with egg allergies or intolerances,” Ehsani says.

From a nutrition standpoint, Caspero gives Just Egg and all plant-based eggs a strong thumbs-up: “There are health benefits that come from swapping out higher-fat animal products and swapping in heart-healthy plant foods. While whole plant foods will always be a gold standard for me, I love the convenience of grabbing items like Just Egg for breakfast instead of an egg every so often.”

For omnivores, this doesn’t mean you have to swap out eggs completely, but adding in other protein-rich foods, like mung beans and tofu, is a good way to incorporate plant-protein diversity, Caspero continues. If you don’t have an egg allergy or aren’t vegan, you could put this mindset into practice by alternating Just Egg and regular eggs.

Plant-based eggs also offer another benefit beyond personal health: Environmental health. The egg industry has made strides to reduce water use and greenhouse gas emissions, but producing eggs still uses more resources than growing most plants. Many prominent animal organizations, including the Humane Society, are also worried about the treatment of chickens in production facilities.

Are Vegan Eggs Healthy

That’s the real question: Are these egg alternatives as healthy as the real deal? According to Rizzo, the answer is yes.

Regular eggs and Just Egg are pretty similar, Rizzo tells Runners World. For example, a regular egg and Just Egg both have 70 calories and 5 grams of fat per serving . Regular eggs have 6 grams of protein, while Just Egg has 5 grams of protein, so thats also similar.

The only real nutritional downside is that real eggs have added nutrients such as vitamin D, vitamin B12, choline, and antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin, Rizzo says. Though you may focus on the protein, these nutrients play an important role in bone health, cognition, energy, pregnancy, and eye health, she explains.

Another concern is that vegan eggs are made with a whole list of ingredients like mung bean protein isolate, canola oil, natural flavors, potassium citrate, and soy lecithin, Rizzo says. While these arent necessarily bad for you, its a complicated list, especially if you are attempting to eat more whole foods that are less processed.

For a vegan substitute to eggs this was pretty good. I made scrambled eggs with just cheese and a little pepper. The texture wasnt exactly the same as real eggs, but it didnt matter. I actually cooked some Beyond breakfast sausages in a small pan and then poured in the Just Egg which amped up the flavor with the sausage juices. I dont know if you could use this when baking though. Would love to see a review on that

Are Brown Eggs Better than White Eggs? The color of an egg is not an indicator of quality. When it comes to taste and nutrition, there is no difference between white and brown eggs. Despite the fact that theyre often more expensive, brown eggs arent any better for you than white eggs, and vice versa.

We Need To Really Develop That Mung Bean Starch Market

How to Make Boiled Eggs in the Air Fryer

He added: In Asia Pacific, its 14-16 cents an egg, so our objective in the next handful of years is to get below that cost of production, and that will require significant scale on the upstream side, and will require that we find a smart market for the co-product, in this case starch. So its got to be cleaned up and dried and then it can be used in noodles, and as a filler in other foods.

Weve spent relatively little energy on this so far, but if we want to take a big step to getting below the cost of production for the egg, we need to really develop that mung bean starch market.

But downstream, he said, We can plug into an existing infrastructure with companies such as Eurovo and PHW and let it loose, and were going to repeat that same formula in China, Latin America, Australia, the Middle East and eventually in the US.

This allows us to focus on what we do best: continuing to improve the quality of the product. If we can lock down this infrastructure we can scale in a much lighterweight, smarter way.

The alliance with Eurovo is likely up and running before the end of the year.

How Much Just Egg Equals One Egg

How much Just Egg to use is equivalent to using real eggs. A large egg is about 3 tablespoons, give or take. For most recipes simply substitute 3 to 4 tablespoons of Just Egg for each large egg. For each extra-large or jumbo egg called for substitute 4 tablespoons of Just Egg.

In recipes that need either a more eggy flavor or a stronger structure, use 4 tablespoons of Just Egg per egg. This would apply to brownies and cookies that youd like to be crisp but dense. When a lighter texture and milder flavor are desired, as in lighter cakes or puffier cookies, use 3 tablespoons of Just Egg for each egg.

Hybrid Protein Products Could Combine Cell

Mung bean protein isolate has potential in a broad range of food applications from ice cream to sauces, according to a GRAS determination from Just Inc sent to the FDA in December 2016.

Right now, however, Tetrick says work on the mung bean protein is focused on eggs and meat. There are opportunities in the world of cultured meat, because the first products dont have to be 100% chicken, for example, they could include some plant-based protein.

Speaking at the American Food Innovate Summit in Chicago last week, Just Inc VP product development, Chris Jones, said: This protein creates extremely unique textures. Through extrusion were able to create a base that texturally replicates chicken and then were able to add our cultured chicken to this product.

“When you combine the two together, I call it my eight-year-old test when an eight-year-old likes your chicken nugget, you know youre in good shape. The flavors and textures are outstanding.

    Pizza Egg Rolls Recipe

JUST Egg is a “10 out of 10”

I meal plan once a month and its one of the things that keeps our house running smoothly- or at least, partially smoothly. In just about half an hour I am able to figure out our dinners for the entire month and then all I have to do each week is order the right groceries for that weeks meals.

One of my hacks for meal planning in just 30 minutes a month is having themed days every week. For example, every week we observe Meatless Monday, where I make a meatless meal. But the most popular themed day we have every week? Pizza Friday!

I know we are not the only family to celebrate Pizza Friday, and its no surprise that its so popular- by the time Friday rolls around, I am wanting a quick and easy recipe to make and who doesnt love pizza?

But having the same kind of pizza every single week gets old, so we have found other fun ways to enjoy pizza every single Friday- while still getting a decent variety!

These Pizza Egg Rolls are a HUGE hit around here. They combine the delicious taste of pizza with the crunch of egg rolls- and theyre still SUPER easy to make so theyre perfect for lazy Fridays. You can easily customize them with different toppings or different dipping sauces and theyre just so much fun!

What Do Mung Beans Taste Like

For instance, mung beans can be eaten as a sprout or raw. But they are also sold dried as well. When eaten naturally, mung beans have a crisp and clean taste, similar to edamame. However, when cooked, mung beans taste hearty like lima beans. Because they absorb flavors well, mung beans can be savory or sweet, depending on how prepared.

    Just Egg Changed Their Ingredients

When Just Egg first came out and I tried it I liked it! I liked it a lot. I’ve used it to make many things, such as vegan egg sandwiches, omelettes, sausage biscuits, and more. I’ve used it regularly over the last couple of years. Recently, I started noticing that it seemed “different.” That was the best way that I could describe it, because I couldn’t put my finger on what it was that was different about it. To me, it didn’t taste the same as it had and the consistency had changed.

This past weekend, I happened to look at the ingredients list on the bottle and I immediately noticed that it had changed since I first started using it. I know, because over the last few years I have really mulled over ingredients lists and researched different things in products. Our food supply today is SO filled with toxic ingredients that have no place in food! I recognized ingredients on the list that were not there originally. So this morning I did a quick search and found that they indeed change the ingredients list, so that it was more “egg like.” I guess in their opinion it is more egg-like, but in my opinion it made it less desirable.

Here is the original Just Egg ingredient list:

Water, mung bean protein isolate, expeller-pressed canola oil, contains less than 2% of calcium citrate, enzyme, gellan gum, natural color extractives , natural flavors, natural turmeric extractives , onion puree, salt, soy lecithin, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, preservative .

    Why Buy Vegan Eggs

The benefits of opting for a plant-based Benedict range from improved health to reduced carbon emissions.

Healthwise, new research has shown that eggs are not good for us, which contradicts the egg industrys widespread claims. Chicken eggs are high in cholesterol, with a single egg containing 373mg of the substance, which has been linked to health conditions such as heart disease and stroke. To put this in perspective, thats more than twice what youd find in a Big Mac. On the other wing, the JUST Egg is cholesterol-free.

Research into the health benefits of eggs is increasingly showing that their consumption is linked to conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. A study published in Atherosclerosis reviewed 14 studies into eggs and concluded that people observed eating high numbers of eggs had a 68 percent increased risk of developing diabetes.

According to the FDA, beneath the shell, an egg can contain salmonella and bacteria, which no amount of poaching will remove.

Environmentally speaking, chicken eggs require considerably more land, more fuel, more water and more financial input than vegan counterparts.

According to publication The New Food Economy, a box of a dozen eggs requires four pounds of feed, 636 gallons of water, and a discomforting amount of antibiotics to produce.

The Department of Health and Human Services found that it was not an isolated incident and there is no telling how many other egg farms have followed the same unethical practice.
