Absolute Worst Tech Gadget Ever
Owned three years. Extremely buggy, never user friendly. Often just doesnt work, wont connect, wont switch modes, loses device and requires re-entry of S/N during initiation of cook. While smoking a $200 wagyu roast on the rotisserie, I gave up after 27 minutes of trying to get the Egg Moron to connect and function in any of its three modes. Absolutely worst product ever.
Terrible experience. Bought it yesterday and was excited. Spent 1.5 hours trying to connect to it. I could find the device and try to connect, but before reaching step 3 to actually config the device wifi the app would minimize. When reopened it skipped the final step and simply said could not connect to server. Finally realized what was happening after I borrowed my wife’s iphone and was able to complete step 3. DOES NOT work on my galaxy s9!!! Unfortunately I be returning.
Trying To Find An App Worth Your Time
My son has one of these and struggled to get it set up after an hour but after he did it works like a charm. He got me one for my birthday in April 2021 and I have yet to be able to set it up. Every single time I try the software this uses decides to disconnect. My son spent 4 hours today fighting with the software for it to fail to connect to the internet each time. Fix your software and fire the team that wrote what it currently uses

How Cr Tests Kamado Grills
We started by assessing the cooking performance of each kamado. Could it get thin-crust pizza hot enough to crisp the crust without burning the toppings? Next, we used pork shoulder to see whether the grill could cook low and slow for long stretches, all while maintaining a consistent temperature.
Every kamado grill we tested excels in our cooking tests, but they differ significantly in two key areas: convenience and cleaning. The best kamados not only cook well but also make it easy to build a hot fire or dial down the temperature for ribs or brisket. Theyre also easy to clean. Many have ash catchers, or trays, while others need to be disassembled for a thorough cleaning.

Bad Ui And Even Worse Functionality
As a BGE loyalist I am super disappointed and as a tech industry by trade, I am super shocked this is the best they could do. UI is bad. Feels circa 1995. Functionality is even worse. Even after the most recent firmware update: temp probe is probably 40 degrees off of the dome temp, it constantly alerts you on the app is your dome open? when its not, you have to open the app and sit there for 10 seconds for the temps to update , and the probes are cheap and break very easily. For the price point they want for this it is totally not worth it. It feels like a product that was 50% ready and developed, yet they released it anyway. Even the firmware updates they are providing show no sign of improvement. Dont buy it or at least wait 2 years for them to get around to actually making it work.
The user interface is terrible for the high price tag of the controller. The initial setup instructions are wrong. I had to Google and figure out how to port into the thing using its IP address, which would have been fine if they’d just put that in the instructions. App crashes a lot. You can’t even use all the features unless you connect to it online. I’d love to talk to a developer about how to fix this UI. Just selecting your pit and meat temp is a pain. I wouldn’t buy it if I were you.
Cons But Not Deal Breakers
The BGE‘s built-in thermometer, for one thing, leaves something to be desired. It maxes out at 750 degrees Fahrenheit, but you’ll find out quickly enough that this grill gets much, much hotter.
We’re also not thrilled with the lid, which could open more and make transferring food a little easier. This is one place where the BGE’s main competitor, the Kamado Joe, wins out.
You’ll also find that building the Big Green Egg yourself is a pain, especially setting the top so that it sits flush to the bottom when closed. We recommend paying for the white-glove service unless you really enjoy building, and moreover, problem solving.

Big Green Egg Small Ceramic Cooker Review

For many, the Big Green Egg is the Weber of Kamados. They introduced Kamado cookers to the USA and are often viewed as the industry standard. The Small Egg is one size larger than their Mini Egg and has a 13 diameter grate. Made in Mexico the BGE design is simple, it is built to last, and it has a limited lifetime warranty.
Round Kamados work as good as or better than standard charcoal grills for most recipes. They are, by design, excellent ovens and smokers because once the ceramic settles at the desired temperature, it stays there for hours. Eggs make great pizza ovens. Remove the grate and you can do Brazilian and Tandoori style cooking on long skewers, all standing vertically in a circle around the small, super hot fire. Open the bottom damper, remove the top damper completely, and turn your Egg into a roaring furnace with a column of flame shooting out the dome for searing thin steaks and burgers.
But they cannot be set up for true 2-zone cooking, an essential technique easily done on other charcoal grills by piling coal to one side to create a direct and indirect zone simultaneously. A few exceptions exist, such as Primos Oval Kamados. .
The base holds an inner fire pit in the bottom of which is a charcoal grate. Theres a sliding damper on the outside for air to enter below the charcoal.
Its A Grill Oven And A Smoker
- If you can eat it, it can be grilled! Put meat, fish, veggies, and fruit on the stainless steel cooking grate and youll be rewarded with a tender, delicious meal!

Password And Login Mistakes All The Time
This device keeps asking for login and password. It never saves it??? Why a password needed anyways, sick in tired of all these passwords needed, what someone is going to screw up temperature in my egg? Come on! What I have to keep the device plugged in at all times so it remembers? Done with this
When first testing, I thought this was great. THEN, after I started cooking, The device keeps going off-line, will not reconnect, will not show me my settings if/when it does connect, will not remember my login credentials , etc. This is one of the worst apps Ive used in a long time. It was such a great Christmas gift but not sure its going to work out!
Is Charcoal Environmentally Friendly
According to Greener Ideal, charcoal is less eco-friendly than gas or electric, as carbon monoxide and soot is released as it burns. There are, however, some measures you can take to lessen the effect. Instead of briquettes, opt for a natural option like lump coal, which releases lass gas and soot. Flavour-wise, there’s little difference.
You could also opt for a dome grill, which captures the heat better, so less fuel is burned.

We can, however, evaluate its performance and help you answer the question: Does anyone really need to drop $1,000 or more on the Big Green Egg? Especially when competitive kamado grills can be had for as little as a few hundred dollars, not to mention that some great gas grillsas well as the top-rated charcoal grills from our testsstart just north of $100.
