Basic Egg Donor Requirements
Egg donor applicants must be healthy women aged 20-32 who do not smoke. They must be dependable in keeping appointments and following through to the end of the process.
The FDA requires all egg donors be tested for infections including sexually transmitted diseases. This includes blood tests for syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV , and Hepatitis B and C.
Testing for recessive carrier gene conditions is done on all prospective donors. We may also recommend testing for other genetic diseases based on the prospective donors health history and ethnicity. Other requirements include the following:
- Be in general good health, physically and psychologically.
- Have a BMI of 19-29, ideally in the 19-25 range.
- Have both ovaries.
- Have fairly regular periods each month .
- Not taking any psychoactive drugs, not vaping, not around secondhand smoke.
- No history of substance abuse.
- Not using Depo-Provera injections or implants for contraception .
How Do They Remove Eggs For Donation
To donate eggs, the donor must be given medications that will cause her to develop multiple eggs over a single cycle. The eggs are then removed from the donor by placing a needle that is attached to an ultrasound probe through the vaginal tissues. The eggs are then gently aspirated from the ovaries.

Who Are The Best Candidates For Egg Donation
Whether you are donating eggs for money or pure altruistic reasons, there are certain factors that determine your eligibility. Most clinics or agencies prefer egg donations from women who are aged between 18 to 35 years.
They must be in good health with a normal BMI range and must be a non-smoker with no history of genetic or inherited health conditions. Ideally, a candidate should be over 25 years of age as they are physically more mature and emotionally stable.

Egg donation is when a woman goes through part of the IVF process in order to have some of her eggs collected, which she can then donate to someone else’s treatment, fertility research or training.

All of our doctors are board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. What Compensation Can Be Paid By Egg Donor Agencies

It is only right and fair, because donating eggs require significantly more involvement than, say, donating blood, or donating sperm, or donating an hour of your time to a charity.

What are egg donors paid each time they donate? A first-time egg donor is paid $10,000, and an egg donor who has previously donated is paid $12,000. We do offer egg donor compensation above $12,000 if an egg donor has outstanding qualities that are difficult to find. Egg donor payments are broken down into two disbursements.

The Florida Egg Donor Requirements Include:
- Age you must be between the ages of 20 to 29, for the best chance of viable eggs.
- Health you should be in good overall health and must pass a physical assessment performed by our clinicians.
- Body Weight you must not be overweight or obese and should have a BMI of under 28.
- STI-Free you must not have been free of any sexually transmitted infection for at least 12 months prior to donating your eggs.
- Smoking/Drugs you must not smoke or use illegal drugs.
- Family History We will take into consideration family history, especially the risk factors for any genetically inherited diseases.
- Travel You must not have made a visit to a country where the Zika virus is present for the last six months.
- Time Commitment You must be able to accommodate the demands on your time that testing and appointments will require.

Understanding The Egg Donation Process
Before being approved as a donor, applicants must complete a questionnaire, have an initial consult, complete psychological counseling, and undergo a medical screening. If you are approved after completing these steps, your profile will be made available to potential recipients in the donor database.
Once matched and the donation process is initiated, you may need to begin taking birth control pills to regulate ovulation. When your retrieval cycle begins, you will give yourself fertility shots daily for 10 to 12 days. When your physician determines that your egg follicles are mature, you will give yourself a trigger shot. Your egg retrieval procedure will be scheduled to occur 36 hours after this trigger shot.
Your eggs will be retrieved during an outpatient procedure at one of our clinics. You will be sedated to minimize discomfort, and there will be no incision. The retrieval takes about 30 minutes, followed by a one-hour recovery time. Grogginess, uterine cramping and light vaginal spotting are normal. You will be given post-procedure pain medications to take as needed, and you will need someone to drive you home.

How Much Are Egg Donors Compensated From State To State
Every egg donation case is unique and involves many factors that can impact the overall payment. The average amount of compensation can range from $5,000 to $10,000 plus expenses, depending on experience and the individual arrangements. In states like California, where egg donors are in high demand, donors may be paid slightly higher. Legal requirements and the costs of other services can also vary from state to state. However, the amount egg donors are paid doesn’t vary greatly between cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston.
Donating Your Eggs Will Not Affect Your Own Fertility
There is no evidence that donating eggs will affect your own future fertility. Each month during your natural cycle, your ovaries will recruit multiple follicles, of which only one follicle reaches maturity and releases an egg. The remainder will stop developing and degenerate. Fertility medications administered during the egg donation process help to develop follicles that would otherwise degenerate. In other words, we retrieve eggs that your body would have never released for you to get pregnant on your own.
While the risk for complications from the egg donation process are low, they do exist. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is characterized by enlarged ovaries, accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, and bloating. A mild form occurs in 10 to 20 percent of cycles and results in some discomfort but almost always resolves without complications. A severe form occurs in approximately 1 percent of cycles. With close monitoring by sonograms and blood work, the risk of developing OHSS is very low. There is a minor less than 1 percent risk of bleeding or infection with egg donation.
