Factors Affecting Egg Donor Price

My Egg Donation Experience (and how much it pays)

The final egg donor cost depends on several factors, including the donors specific location, compensation, and which program you choose.

1. Location of Egg Donor:

The location of the egg donor is an important consideration for intended parents who are interested in using fresh donor eggs as the donor will travel to the recipients chosen fertility clinic and the recipient will be responsible for the donors travel expenses. Although many of our egg donors are located in our home state of California, we proudly work with egg donors worldwide.

2. Egg Donor Compensation:

The donors compensation is factored into the recipient’s total cycle cost. Proven donors or donors participating in our Premier program may require higher compensation.

3. Program Selection:

The cost of egg donors will vary depending on which of our programs you select. For instance, choosing to use fresh donor eggs will typically cost more than using frozen donor eggs.

What Is The Use For Donor Eggs In Ivf

Donor egg IVF is a form of fertility treatment that is like a conventional IVF treatment but with one huge difference, the recipient getting pregnant uses another womans eggs.

Donor eggs are used for various reasons, such as the recipient being an older woman, the recipient having low ovarian reserves and gay men and women or single men, along with cancer survivors who failed to freeze their eggs, and even those who have failed or more IVF cycles.

Are Donor Eggs Covered By Insurance

Unfortunately, donor eggs are usually not covered by insurance, although the IVF cycle may be covered by your insurance if your plan has IVF coverage. As always, your best bet is to call your insurance plan and ask what is and isnt covered.

Requesting Egg Banking From A Fresh Egg Donor

If there are no frozen eggs available that the recipient is interested in, the recipient can select a fresh egg donor. Donor Nexus will cycle the egg donor, freeze her eggs and ship either 1 cohort of eggs or all of the eggs retrieved from the donor .

  • The cost to ship 1 cohort of eggs from a fresh egg donor starts at $22,000 USD.
  • The cost to ship all of the eggs from a fresh donor starts at $40,000 USD.

Is There Another Way

If paying egg donors can put them at risk and puts large financial burdens on intended parents, whats the answer?

It is possible to both reduce costs for intended parents and ensure donors are not put between a rock and a hard place. In countries like Canada, egg donation is still happening, even with bans on paying donors.

And many donorseven here in the USmake the choice altruistically, to help parents-to-be. These women may not look to make money off of someone elses fertility challenges. Many intended parents find out that their donor made the choice because she saw others face fertility challenges, and wanted to help.

Our advice? Ask questions about how your donors motives, compensation, and how she found out about egg donation. We believe that egg donation should be a positive experience for everyone involved. The good news is that it can be.

Why Should We Pay Egg Donors

Egg donor compensation is meant to cover the effort and time donors put into the donation process. The amount they get paid also ensures they can focus on caring for themselves throughout hormone intake and check-ups of egg donation.

Egg Donors should be celebrated for what they do and compensated for their effort. Hopeful parents are glad to pay you to show gratitude.

Making Your Egg Donation Costs More Manageable

Change Lives as an Egg Donor!

There are several factors that contribute to the total amount of egg donation costs you pay. These include compensation to the egg donor, fees paid to the fertility center, egg donation agency, and other professionals involved. Here are two tips that you can use to help you make these costs a little more manageable.

Before selecting a fertility center to work with, research the related egg donation costs charged by the fertility centers around your area. Since this will be a large portion of your overall egg donation. Find out how much they charge for IVF, medication, etc. beforehand.

Choosing an egg donor that lives relatively close to you and the fertility center of your choice can also help to greatly reduce the final amount you pay for egg donation. This will eliminate or reduce any excess travel expenses during the egg donor cycle.

What Other Costs Come With Using An Egg Donor

Paying an egg donor is only part of the price youll have to pay. The additional costs for using an egg donor can also include:

Item
$450

*Optional depending on egg bank and donor need

A surprising factor in the cost of egg donation is the need for the use of an escrow account. Families are often required to use escrow during the process of adoption, surrogacy, and other fertility treatments. Using an escrow means they make their payments to the donor through a third-party to insure nobody is taken advantage of. There are escrow management companies that specialize in working with families throughout the process of building their family. The above fees do not include the cost of medical procedures associated with using egg donors, such as IVF or surrogacy.

The average cost all together of using a donor egg, IVF, and other corresponding fertility treatments to have a single round is estimated to be around $38,000 total. The average cost per live birth for families using egg donors and IVF was estimated to be $72,000 in 2010. The cost for your family will vary greatly on your insurance coverage, the rates in your state, and the number of rounds used.

Benefits Of Being An Egg Donor

Help build a family

When you choose to donate your eggs, you are performing a great act of empathy and compassion. Couples facing infertility, LGBTQ+ couples, single parents, and others often require the assistance of an egg donor to have a child. Being a part of the most comprehensive egg donation program in the industry, leads to a very exciting and rewarding journey to help make a dream of becoming a parent come true.

Generous Compensation

We acknowledge you for choosing to be a contribution to the lives of others and our egg donors are given a financial compensation. Although compensation varies, first time donors begin at $6500 with increased compensation for subsequent cycles. Along with the experience of knowing you are helping build families, we also offer an egg donor referral program that financially compensates you if your friend completes a full donor cycle.

Free Health Screenings

Before you can donate your eggs, a doctor will need to ensure you are healthy through medical, psychological, and genetic screenings. The screenings include blood work to test for common health and fertility issues, as well as an STI/STD screening. As your health is holistically addressed, you will learn important information about your own fertility today so you can own your future tomorrow.

Where Can Donor Eggs Be Purchased

Donor eggs can be bought from three different types of businesses:

Fertility Clinics: Many fertility clinics have their own donor egg programs. Fertility clinic donor egg programs usually have both Fresh and Frozen Donor Eggs for sale.

Donor Egg Banks: Donor egg banks sell frozen donor eggs which they then ship frozen to fertility clinics to be used.

Donor Egg Agencies: Agencies are similar to banks in that they are not attached to a fertility clinic, but usually coordinate fresh donor egg cycles via a network of donors throughout the country.

*if using a known donor, you would still need a fertility clinic to perform the IVF portion and because there is significant testing and additional coordination, most clinics still charge more than their standard IVF price.

Faq: Common Questions For Egg Donors

Who receives donor eggs?

Couples generally choose this option because they’re unable to conceive with the eggs of the partner who will carry the child. Women may be unable to conceive with their own eggs for many reasons, such as being older, having experienced early menopause, having poor-quality eggs or having a history of cancer treatments that damaged their ovaries. Egg recipients have often gone through extensive fertility treatments without success.

Egg recipients can be couples, single women or single men . At UCSF, all recipients in our egg donor program are UCSF patients.

As a potential donor, why should I choose the UCSF program?

The UCSF Egg Donor Program is part of the UCSF Center for Reproductive Health. All of our doctors are board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. We’ve been helping patients become parents using donated eggs since 1991 when we were one of the Bay Area’s first programs to do so. Our expertise is complemented by the commitment and care of a large team of professionals that includes genetic counselors, psychologists, highly trained nurses and detail-oriented office staff members.

Because the UCSF Ovum Donor Program provides eggs only to UCSF patients, you receive all your care in one setting. Egg donor agencies may send you to donate at various locations, which may have different processes.

Donor Eggs: How Much Is Too Much

It may be true that the term donation is a bit of a misnomer when it comes to egg donation, but it is also not accurate to say that young women are selling their eggs. Egg donation is a complicated process, and very few women would offer up their precious eggs for free. It has been my experience that women choose to be egg donors with dualistic motivation. Handsome fees being offered entice many young women to consider egg donation. But most that follow through and actually become an egg donor also do so because they do want to help someone to become a parent. Often they are not ready to have children themselves.

It is true that donor compensation can make the cost of IVF with an egg donor prohibitive for the average individual. For a young woman to undergo this process for someone else, she deserves to be compensated.

Becoming an egg donor is no walk in the park. Ask any woman who has undergone IVF. She is putting herself at risk to help someone else not to build her family. ASRM limits women to only doing six cycles as an egg donor most egg donors will not do this many cycles. It is physically taxing, and there are still lingering questions as to how many cycles are truly safe as well as issues of consanguinity. Additionally, women are only eligible to be egg donors for a relatively short window of time in their lives, between age 21 and 29
