In Keto Egg Drop Soup, carbs are almost non-existent.

And that means you can eat this Egg Drop Soup the whole day, day after day. How awesome.

Cooking Low Carb Egg Drop Soup

(1g Carb) Keto Egg Drop Soup Recipe

Now its time to cook your easy keto egg drop soup. It will take just 10 minutes to make this soup, so get ready to fall in love and make it on repeat.

Begin by heating a pot over medium high heat. Add the chicken broth, garlic, ginger, and liquid aminos. Stir well to dissolve the powders and then bring it to a boil

Next crack two eggs in a small bowl whisking well to fully combine the eggs and whites.

When the broth begins to boil remove it from the heat and swirl a fork in it. You want a circular vortex to form. Once the water is swirling, SLOWLY pour the egg mixture into the hot broth. Continue to stir with a fork as the eggs are added.

Serve immediately and feel free to garnish with 1 tsp of sesame oil and/ or green onions. This easy keto egg drop soup does not store well as the eggs will become rubbery when reheated. AKA eat up!

    Avoid Breaded And Water

Breaded and fried meats are common at Chinese buffets, especially in dishes like General Tsos chicken, butterfly shrimp, and sweet and sour chicken. Thick breading and sugary sauces make these dishes too high in carbs to be keto-friendly.

When dining out, you should also try to avoid water-velveted meats if you know they were marinated in cornstarch rather than baking soda.

    Instant Pot Egg Drop Soup

Easy Spinach Egg Drop Soup (Low Carb)

Egg drop soup cooks quite quickly, and you can add the eggs as soon as the soup comes to a boil. Because of this, I dont see any advantage to cooking the soup in the Instant Pot. By the time the soup comes to a boil with a 0 minute cook time, youll have to wait for the pot to depressurize in order to take it off and add the eggs.

That being said, if you want to make this egg flower soup in the Instant Pot, I recommend adding all the ingredients except the eggs and sesame oil to the pot and bringing it to a boil on the Saute mode . Turn off the saute mode right after the soup comes to a boil and then drizzle in the eggs and sesame oil.

    Rich In Various Nutrients

Did you know that bone broth is abundant in glutathione? Glutathione has been shown to play a role in gene expression, protein synthesis, cell proliferation, and immune responses. Along with glutathione, bone broth is naturally rich in amino acids, the building blocks of protein.

    Take the keto quiz

Other key nutrients found in bone broth include glycosaminoglycans, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, and electrolytes. Electrolytes include beneficial minerals including calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which are extremely important in optimal training and recovery for people with active lifestyles.

    Choosing The Healthiest Soup

Both egg drop and wonton soups are among the better options if you are trying to eat healthy at a Chinese restaurant. A cup of egg drop soup contains 65 calories and only 1.5 grams of fat, while a cup of wonton soup provides 71 calories but only 0.6 grams of fat.

However, both of these soups are high in sodium, with egg drop soup containing 37 percent of the DV and wonton soup containing 38 percent of the DV for this mineral.

The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day â or even better, no more than 1,500 milligrams per day, especially for those with high blood pressure.

Regularly eating too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure and an increased risk for heart disease, per the AHA, so watch your sodium intake the rest of the day if you enjoy either of these soups.

    Optional But Delicious Ingredients:

Low Carb Egg Drop Soup – Easy Recipe!
    • Cornstarch: My recipe includes cornstarch since most people do prefer the thicker texture. However it isnt 100% necessary if you prefer to leave it out for health or textural reasons. Dont add too much, or youll end up with a gelatinous mess like you see at a lot of restaurants. You dont want your soup to have the texture of half-set Jello.
    • Corn: I always throw a little frozen corn in my soup for flavor and texture. It gives the soup some sweet little morsels and it helps bulk the soup up a bit.
    • Minced chicken: I hardly ever do this, but if you want your soup to have some extra protein, add some minced chicken to the soup while cooking.

I recommend velveting the chicken separately with a splash of soy sauce and some cornstarch to soften the chicken before cooking. Mix all the ingredients together, then throw into the soup while boiling .

    • Tofu: Sometimes Ill have silken tofu on hand, so Ill cut it into small, long rectangles or squares and drop them into the soup while boiling. Its another flavor and textural element that we love.

    Choose Healthy Chinese Food

What’s the healthiest Chinese food to order in a restaurant? Instead of choosing menu items that are deep fried and battered, such as egg rolls, select those that are roasted, grilled, broiled, steamed or stir-fried, recommends Michigan State University Extension . Examples include moo goo gai pan and Hunan chicken.

To order healthy dishes, it helps to be familiar with a few common Chinese terms. Jum means poached, kao means roasted and zheng means steamed, says MSU Extension.

Chinese food sauces are high in sodium and MSG. Request that the sauce be served on the side, or ask if the restaurant offers a low-sodium version of the dish you like.

Other tips for getting healthier Chinese food include choosing meals with more vegetables, and ordering plain rice rather than fried rice, suggests the University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Chicken and fish dishes are better options than those made with beef, pork or duck. Since portion sizes are often large, plan to share an entree with your dinner companion.
