In accordance with the contract you will be asked to sign, any and all children born as a result of the egg donation process will legally belong to the couple receiving the donated eggs. Q Does It Hurt To Donate Eggs
A. During the stimulation phase, a donor might experience some bloating and irritability. The egg retrieval is done under sedation so a donor will not experience pain during the procedure. After the procedure, a donor will generally feel tired from the sedation and she may experience some bleeding and / or cramping. This usually goes away by the next day but can last up to a week or longer.

4b Intended Mother Or Gestational Carrier Pretesting
Your physician will review your medical history and order pretesting to be completed by either your general practitioner or gynecologist. Donor Nexus will help you schedule your initial consultation with an HRC physician if you have not already established care with another fertility clinic. Some pretests will need to be completed on specific days of your menstrual cycle.
You can expect to have the following pretesting ordered by your physician:
- Uterine Cavity Evaluation: sonohysterogram or hysteroscopy with mock embryo transfer
- State Mandated Infectious Disease Panel
- Any additional testing the physician requests
The physician will review your pretesting results and determine if you are cleared to move forward with the cycle. You will work with your nurse coordinator to determine specific cycle dates. At this time you can book flights and accommodations if necessary.
How Long Does The Egg Donation Process Take
Once selected, an IVF coordinator contacts the egg donor and guides her through each step of the processbeginning with an FDA-required round of testing. From there the donor takes the following steps to donate her eggs:
- Suppression and ovarian stimulationThe egg donor self-injects a medication called Lupron to suppress her natural cycle, so it can be synchronized with the recipient. Next, she self-injects gonadotropin, a sex hormone that stimulates ovulation. During this phase, the egg donor is closely monitored through blood tests and ultrasound to ensure the ovaries are responding appropriately.
- Triggering ovulation and egg retrievalWhen the ultrasound shows the egg donors eggs have sufficiently developed, the donor self-injects a medication called hCG. HCG is often referred to as the pregnancy hormone because it triggers ovulation. The eggs are retrieved two days after ovulation in a short in-office procedure. The egg donor is placed under general anesthesia during the procedure.
- Egg donor: Post-retrieval check-upThe donor is required to return to the office for a post-retrieval check-up to ensure she is recovering properly from both the ovarian stimulation and retrieval.
From the start of the Lupron injections to egg retrieval, egg donation is a 3-5 week process for most egg donors.

Getting Started With Becoming An Egg Donor
When you decide to become an egg donor, there are a few preliminary steps that need to be taken before everything else can happen. Potential donors must first apply to our egg donation program. Next, they go through initial screening tests as well as interviews with clinicians and physicians. It is vital our egg donors are in good physical and mental health. The resulting embryo comprises the recipient’s partner’s sperm, and the donated egg is transferred into the recipient’s uterus. About two or three embryos are often transmitted per IVF cycle. The egg recipient can take a pregnancy test after 14 days.

What does the fresh IVF egg donation process look like? In a fresh IVF cycle, donor oocytes are not frozen but, immediately after egg retrieval, are transported to the laboratory for in vitro fertilization. The fresh IVF egg donation process requires synchronisation of the recipient and donors cycles. This can be complex and in certain cases may lead to lower success rates.
The egg recipient needs to be prepared for embryo transfer, which takes place about 3-5 days after egg retrieval. It is crucial to prepare the recipients uterus and endometrium for embryo transfer and to find the perfect implantation window, a time most appropriate for embryo transfer for the specific patient. The entire egg donation process for IVF needs to be synchronised with the egg donors cycle. Unfortunately, the egg retrieval day cannot be moved to a different date and in cases where the preparation for embryo transfer is less than satisfactory, embryo freezing and rescheduling the transfer date can be a solution.

Donating To A Frozen Egg Bank Means No Waiting
Unlike fresh donor programs, frozen egg banks do not require a match in order for a donor to cycle. Once youre accepted into the program, you dont have to wait. You can begin the cycle without waiting to be matched or to have your menstrual cycle coordinated with the recipient of your donated eggs. The donation process happens on your schedule.
