My Egg Shells Have Spots On Themwhat Do I Do

Its possible that your egg shells may have a few small brown spots on them after cooking in the air fryer. Dont worry, its perfectly ok!

This is just from the hot air circulating so quickly if your air fryer isnt completely clean, tiny particles will fly around and stick to the eggs. But the ice water bath washes the spots right off. This will have no effect on the taste or quality of the egg.

    Air Fryer Boiled Eggs Tips

    • Older eggs will be easier to peel – the longer they have been in the fridge for, the easier the peel comes off.

    • Do not overstuff the basket and add only a few eggs at a time.

    • As soon as the eggs are done cooking, transfer them into an ice water bath. This will prevent a green ring from forming.

    • For the easiest peeling process, allow your eggs to completely cool down before starting.

    • Peel the eggs in the water of the ice water bath itself or under running water – its the easiest way for the shell to come off!

    Recipe Tips & Substitutions

    • You can easily double or even triple this recipe depending on how big your air fryer basket is. Just try to leave a little space between each egg in the basket and do not overlap the eggs.
    • I used eggs straight from the refrigerator. If you eggs are at room temperature, then you may need to reduce the cook time by 1-2 minutes.
    • Soft boiled eggs are best served right after they are made.
    • Some air fryer models needs to be preheated. Please refer to the owners manual of your particular model to see if you need to preheat it before using.
    • Also, please note that air fryers vary from model to model. If you think your air fryer runs hot, then you may want to reduce the cooking time for these eggs to just 7 minutes. Then, cut the end off one egg to see if the white is cooked through. If the egg white is still runny, then place the egg back into the basket and cook for 1-2 minutes longer .
    • Dont cut the eggs open until ready to eat! This way they wont form a crust on the egg yolk.

Use This Information To Guide Your Cooking

This is super important! Both the size and power of your air fryer AND the size of the food can make the cook times vary slightly. So use the temperatures and times on the sheet as a guide or rule of thumb only, and make adjustments as needed.

Close to the end of cook time, peek into the air fryer and see if your food is getting close to done, beginning to brown too much, or if it needs more time. Adjust, always use a meat thermometer to double check for doneness, and keep it moving!

Storing Other Types Of Cooked Egg

How to cook a hard medium and soft boiled egg in an air fryer

Eggs are pretty versatile and can be cooked in many ways, including coddling, poaching, scrambling, and frying.

In all instances, because the shells have been removed, these types of cooked eggs wont keep as long as hard-boiled eggs with their shells intact.

As a rule, cooked eggs that will be stored should be cooled as quickly as possible, then transferred into shallow airtight containers, and refrigerated within two hours.

They will then keep for as long as three or four days maximum.

If you are separating yolks from egg whites for recipes of one kind or another, you can keep the unused part of the egg in a sealed container inside your fridge for up to four days.

    A Guide To Peeling Hard

While you might think, and quite rightly so, that the fresher an egg is, the better for eating, somewhat ironically, the older the egg is, the easier it will be to peel once its been boiled.

To make it even easier, immersing them in a cold-water bath immediately after boiling also helps.

The best way of preparing hard-boiled eggs for easy peeling, to use sliced in salads or as a presentation topping, is to transfer them from the cold water bath into the fridge.

The coldness of the refrigerator causes the inside of the egg to separate from the shell, thus making them a doddle to peel.

    What Is An Air Fryer

Air Fryer Soft Boiled Eggs Technique

An air fryer is a small kitchen appliance that acts as a convection oven. The air circulates in a small space, leading to a crispy exterior and a warm interior. Thats why air frying is often used as a replacement for deep frying. The final product ends up being crispier than baking in the oven, and the cooking time is often cut in half or more! I have plenty of Air Fryer Recipes on the blog, and youll often see me make fries or chicken wings! They give you the delicious crispiness without the large quantity of oil and the mess that comes with deep frying!

In this case, well see if the circulation of air in the confined space will help boil your eggs faster than if you were to wait for water to boil over the stove and then actually boil the eggs, or for you to place the eggs in an Instant Pot and allow the pressure to rise then release.

    Always Preheat Your Air Fryer

Treat air fryer cooking like you would oven cooking. You always preheat your air fryer, unless youre making one of the very rare recipes that call for a cold-oven start.

No preheat setting? That only means you wont be alerted once the air fryer reaches temperature, but you still need to preheat your air fryer! Just turn it to the desired cooking temperature, then wait about 4-5 minutes before you start cooking.

How To Boil Eggs In An Air Fryer

  • Preheat Air Fryer according to recipe instructions.
  • Place the eggs in the fryer basket and cook.
  • Once the cooking time is completed, plunge eggs into an ice bath to stop the cooking process and chill them.
    • For soft boiled eggs set timer for 11 to 12 minutes at 250°F.
    • For medium boiled eggs set timer for 13 to 14 minutes at 250°F.
    • For hard boiled eggs set timer 16 to 18 minutes at 250°F.

Plunge eggs into an ice bath for 5 minutes.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These eggs were tested in a Cosori XL 5.8QT Air Fryer with large eggs directly from the fridge. Different brands/sizes of air fryers can cook differently so be sure to test one or two eggs before cooking a whole batch of eggs to ensure theyre done to your liking.

Do the eggs crack open in the air fryer while cooking? I have cooked countless batches of eggs in the air fryer and only one egg has ever cracked open. The cracked egg leaked a little bit but didnt burst.

But best of all, air fried eggs are incredibly easy to peel. Ive tried EVERY SINGLE trick, and these eggs are by far the easiest to peel Its almost like they peel themselves. Stovetop Vs Air Fryer Vs Instant Pot

Perfect Air Fryer Soft Boiled Eggs Dippy Eggs In The Air Fryer

This is my third boiled egg recipe, with Stovetop Boiled Eggs and Instant Pot Boiled Eggs. I think the most convenient method has to be the Instant Pot method. You can an extra stove top and you there is no need to wait for the water to boil. A couple of button presses brings so much convenience to something as trivial as boiled eggs.

If you dont have an Instant Pot, the next best method is the stovetop. There is much more intricate control it can give you and it doesnt really take a significantly larger amount of time to cook. Plus, if cooking eggs in bulk, stovetop is the most efficient method.

The reason I am not a fan of Air Fryer eggs is how little control it gives you. Plus, not all air fryers are built the same, not all of them go to a temperature low enough to be able to air fry eggs to perfection. The effort of finding just the right model to use for hard boiled eggs seems to be like an exercise in futility.
